The I-10/I-95 Interchange from Stockton Street and the Fuller Warren Bridge to Adams Street is currently under construction. The project will not only increase the capacity of the Interchange but will also eliminate many of the current cross-lane weaving movements that drivers must negotiate as they use the current interchange. Forest Street will be widened to accommodate the new interstate access ramps.
In 1991, FDOT completed construction of the north and south bound bridges adjacent to I-95 over Myrtle Avenue. These bridges currently service the Bay Street off-ramp from I-95 northbound, and Forsyth Street on-ramp to I-95 Southbound and I-10 westbound. Once the new interchange is constructed, they will become part of a collector/distributor road system, separating interstate traffic from local traffic entering and exiting roadways within the interchange limits. Using the collector distributor roadways, local traffic will be able to exit in the northbound direction at I-95 southbound, Forest Street, Bay Street and Monroe Street and in the southbound direction, at Stockton Street and I-95 southbound.
The entire project should be finished in the spring 2011. Archer Western Contractors are contracted by the FDOT to complete this project at a cost of $150,818,054.28. The official Web site for this project is www.thebigi.info.
A landscaping project is currently scheduled at this intersection in 2011.
